Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Tourism

In 2019, Whai Rawa officially launched our tourism operation; Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Tourism. The launch of this venture was the culmination of years of careful planning, market research, and extensive consultation.

Our decision to move into tourism was driven by the recognition that as our hapū develops we need to diversify our commercial interests, and those interests should align closely with our values. We saw in tourism an attractive avenue to provide employment, access, opportunity and commercial returns for our whānau, while demonstrating through our mahi core values such as ahi kaa, rangatiratanga and manaakitanga.

Tāmaki Hīkoi

From 1 July 2019, our hapu development arm, Whai Maia, handed over the reins of Tāmaki Hīkoi. Our Tourism team have been working behind the scenes to build the product Hīkoi, update the marketing material, revamp the tour offerings and pricing. This has all been in preparation for the cruise season which is about to get in to full swing and summer which is fast approaching.
