Kōrero with Alex Morison
This month, Alex Morrison joined the Whai Rawa property team as Development Manager bringing with him experience across the UK and, most recently, Aotearoa. Alex will be primarily managing Whai Rawa’s project for its land in Owairaka at the old UNITEC site, a multi-year, staged development, as well as working with the property team on developments across Tāmaki and in the Orākei papa kāinga.
Alex moved to Aotearoa four years ago and worked with both Krukzeiner Properties and DUVAL, where he was involved with large townhouse developments.
Alex was introduced to the property sector at an early age, accompanying his mother to multiple house viewings as she bought, renovated and sold homes. That passion has grown into an impressive career that Alex is excited to build on here at Whai Rawa.
“One of my career highlights so far was the completion of a project in Papatoetoe. It was wonderful seeing so many excited first home buyers move into their new homes,” Alex said.
As a Development Manager, his role encompasses all aspects of the property development cycle, from land purchase to settlement, focussed on commercial return and helping to build the profile of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei as a quality developer. Alex joins Whai Rawa’s property team led by General Manager Neil Donnelly alongside Clare Mandeno, Stephen Loizou and recent recruit Dave Blyth.
“Whai Rawa is managing some fantastic land holdings and has many exciting projects coming up. I can’t wait to get stuck in and help the team unlock the land to its full potential – and see more excited faces move into new homes ,” Alex said.
He added that it is both an honour and great opportunity to continue his property career with Whai Rawa. “There is so much potential here, and you can clearly see the benefits of your work for both purchasers and Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei.”
As a new resident to Aotearoa, we asked Alex what he thought of the kaimahi hou powhiri, where he joined fellow new staff across the Group onto Orākei Marae.
“Amazing and inspirational! It was a completely new experience for me, but one that drove home the importance and responsibility of my new role.”
