Te Tōangaroa Masterplan

We have developed a Masterplan for our whenua and the wider area, a vision that protects and grows the asset and celebrates the heritage of Te Tōangaroa. This is a living document, underpinned by our hapū values, long term objectives and whānau feedback.

Whānau feedback

It was important that whānau had the opportunity to provide their feedback about how we can better celebrate the heritage of the area while increasing its commercial value. Some of the key feedback themes included:

Relocation of the Port of Auckland's freight operations

There has been much discussion about the future of the Port, in particular relocating it's freight operations. Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei released its vision for the eastern waterfront including the Port's land that encapsulated whānau feedback, was true to our hapū mātāpono and protected the value of Quay Park.

Te Tōangaroa in the future

Waitematā Sea Baths

The Waitematā is the jewel of our city's waterfront but for too long we have been disconnected from it here at Te Tōangaroa. We want space where everyone can access and enjoy the beautiful Waitematā.

With population growth comes urban development but we want to ensure there is plenty of green space with fruit trees and native species planted.

Community market at Te Taoū

Te Tōangaroa was once a thriving area for trade. Today, many of our whānau carry that same entrepreneurial spirit and we want to have a place where their mahi toi, mahi raranga, harvested kai can be offered to the people of Tāmaki.
