Representation on New Zealand Property Council

The Property Council of New Zealand has appointed 14 women to its governing Branch Executive Committees, including Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei hapū member Anahera Rawiri.

Anahera Rawiri, appointed to the Auckland branch, will represent the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei commercial arm, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Whai Rawa Limited (Whai Rawa).

Whai Rawa is significantly involved in property development across Tāmaki Makaurau through its property development arm, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Properties.

Anahera has been an integral part of the property team delivering affordable housing for hapū members at Ōrākei, as well as the new Oneoneroa premium residential development on the North Shore.

Oneoneroa is Auckland’s first residential development headed by local iwi, with 13 stylish terraced homes on Belmont’s Rutherford Street to be delivered in the new year and more expected to follow later in 2020.

On her appointment Anahera says she will contribute a different perspective to the committee and wants to affect positive change.

“We bring a unique lens to the property sector. We’re not your typical developer who will complete a project and move on. We’ve been here since the beginning and we will always be here in Tāmaki Makaurau. This is our home and to make it the best we can, we need to collaborate with industry leaders.

“Our values, particularly those around kaitiakitanga and sustainability, influence how we operate and put a significant focus on protecting our environment and giving something back to the community.

“Working with the movers and shakers of the property industry will give us an opportunity to offer our perspective and input as an iwi developer, a papakāinga housing provider and a significant land owner here in Tāmaki.

“We want to encourage more developers to build and leave communities and environments better than when they found it,” says Anahera.

Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei is a Founding Partner of Property Council Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives 2020.
